It’s Not Just Wine That Gets Better with Age
It’s Not Just Wine That Gets Better with Age
Hard to believe that 15 years ago, Dynamic was born in my car with nothing
but a phone, a few contacts, and a handful of people that had enough
faith in my ability and passion for this crazy business that my phone kept ringing.
I remember someone asking: “What if it doesn’t work out?” I thought, “Hmmmm…
Great question!” I never gave that any prior thought and decided that it simply
wasn’t an option in my business plan. And that was that! Of course this may seem naïve, but fast-forward to 2012, and though we’ve certainly experienced some sour grapes, here we are aging like a fine wine and looking forward to sweet sixteen.
I am truly blessed to share that December marks the first month of our 16th year in business, which I attribute largely to the remarkable people who have put their trust in my ability and Dynamic team over the past decade and a half.
I am personally grateful to each person that we’ve partnered with in growing their staff; all the employees that have gone out on our behalf to do all sorts of work, from file clerks to CFOs; to each of our vendors; and to the charities that have enabled us to help do some good throughout the communities in which we do business.
Today I can tell you that we have learned a lot – some the easy way and some the hard way. But no matter the method of our learning, I can say with confidence that we are more passionate about this business than ever and I welcome the next 15 years to come!
Interesting Stats About New Business Births & Closures:
Notes: e = Advocacy estimate. Bankruptcies include nonemployer firms. Source: U.S. Dept. of Commerce, Census Bureau; Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts; U.S. Dept. of Labor, Business Employment Dynamics (BED). Estimates based on Census data and BED trends.
What is the Survival Rate for New Firms?
Seven out of 10 new employer firms survive at least 2 years, half at least 5 years, a third at least 10 years, and a quarter stay in business 15 years or more. Census data report that 69 percent of new employer establishments born to new firms in 2000 survived at least 2 years, and 51 percent survived 5 or more years. Survival rates were similar across states and major industries. Bureau of Labor Statistics data on establishment age show that 49 percent of establishments survive 5 years or more; 34 percent survive 10 years or more; and 26 percent survive 15 years or more.
I’m very proud to be part of that 26% and to be recognized as a certified WBE.

Cheers & Thanks to You!
Thank you to those who believed in me and Dynamic, maybe even before we did, and continue to do so. Thank you to the people who carry forward as our champions out there in the business world, and to the ones that gave us that ‘big break’ on a first-time order and continue to support us decades later. Thank you for adding memorable times to our Dynamic lives; we look forward to many more!
And thank you to my current and past Dynamic team, whom I have the honor to work with every day – you have each made a great mark of our business history!
