We Had a Ball on the 18th tee for a Charity!

September 14, 2015 General

On Monday, September 14, 2015, Dynamic Office and Accounting Solutions took part in the 11th annual Have a Ball golf tournament at Crow Canyon Country Club in Danville. The golf tournament, benefitting testicular cancer, is one of the largest non-celebrity golf tournaments in the world. The Have a Ball Foundation is credited with raising over $3 million dollars for cancer since 2005, benefits over 22 cancer organizations, and creates and awards scholarships to oncology nursing students.

This year’s tournament hosted over 600 participants and 56 Corporate Sponsors. The event is spearheaded by Bob and Kim Hammer, who are happy to report that their efforts are on target to raise a record $305,000 for cancer this year.

While the weather at the golf tournament varied between patchy clouds and a bit of rain, golf enthusiasts were not deterred from the “competition.”  What makes this tournament unique is the wide variety of sponsors which vary from former sports stars, TV and radio stations, food and beverage vendors, and local businesses. Even “Howard Cosell” and the Delta Don’s Barbershop Quartet made their appearance.  Sponsors band together to network, have fun, and raise money for a great cause.

Bob Hammer’s Story

Bob Hammer is a two-time testicular cancer survivor. After his second bout with cancer, Hammer wanted to raise money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation to thank them for the birth of his son.
Armstrong’s book about surviving testicular cancer gave Hammer inspiration after surviving cancer the first time.  Bob and his wife, Kim, went to Austin Texas for Lance Armstrong’s Ride for the Roses testicular cancer fundraiser where he met Lance Armstrong and his oncologist, Dr. Craig Nichols. Hammer credits Dr. Nichols with the birth of his son. Dr. Nichols felt the surgery Hammer was scheduled to have at Stanford Hospital for his second bout of cancer, a surgery which would render him unable to have any more children, was unnecessary.  Nine months later, Josh Hammer was born, and Bob Hammer hasn’t forgotten to give back to the Foundation that allowed him to bear his son.  And not to long after that, the foundation was also born!

This year, Dynamic hosted the 18th tee and the founder’s son, Presley, an 8th grader, performed card tricks for more than 10 hours that dazzled golf participants in his own efforts to raise funds towards the fight against cancer for the Have a Ball event!  He has stated in no uncertain terms this is an event that he does not want to miss!

Dynamic is grateful to say they were introduced by playing in the Have a Ball Golf Tourney event back in 2013 – Since then, the Dynamic team is blessed to be included as a volunteer sponsor and for their awesome events.  Stuart believes contributing to charity events is always important; however, this one in particular really hits home for her personally as her dad, mom, aunt, and many friends have been affected by this awful disease and so have their families!  Have A Ball is helping more than 22 organizations that support people and their families that have also been affected.  Stuart hopes to continue to be involved with not only her team at Dynamic, but also her family!

If you know anyone who is unfortunate to have been touched by cancer – please check out HaveABallGolf.com because they are doing great things for many!
